If you specify LOCAL_APPS=y you must set up your own NIS server. Turn
off LOCAL_APPS if you don't want to configure NIS.

Hi,
My ws001 configs in lts.conf looks like this. How do I disable NIS on the
client? Please help.
[ws001]
XSERVER= XF86_SVGA
X_MODE_0 = 1024x768 65 1024 1032 1176 1344 768 771 777
806 -hsync -vsync
XDM_SERVER = 172.16.0.9
X_MOUSE_
The machine 'ws001' is trying to connect to an NIS server, but can't
find one. You should (1) disable NIS on the client or (2) install and
configure an NIS server :)

Hi All,
Anyone who has an idea why this occurs on the /var/log/messages. I'm using
kdm and this usually occurs all the time on the logs. Anyone who has an idea
on how to remove this error message. Hope you can help.

Hello,
Two of my LTSP workstations use Trident 9640/9660 vga card. I set
XSERVER=vesa. It gives a color screen but the edges are dotted X

patches of smear can be always seen on screen.
Has anyone dealt with this and has done some

I'd like to work on PCI wireless cards,
Cygwin is providing the X server on the workstation, and all applictions, X

VNC is free btw

We're trying some new boxes with i845 chipsets on LTSP - most of them work
fine but one of them etherboots, pivot_roots, etc. OK and then dies when X
tries to start - by dies I mean the machine actually powers down, the fan
turns off, etc. (but the power light remains on). Very probable that it's

Hi!
I installed woody and ltsp (i used rh by now, and all things with ltsp
worked fine), and it works well, but with the original woody-kernel
only. If i try to use my own kernel (that works under rh), the whole
booting process stops at the first step (dhcp). What do i have to
compile into my kern

Thank you.
It was the /lts/vmlinuz. to /tftpboot/lts/vmlinuz in the dhcpd.conf
So thats it, it works.
Thx.

Amol,
the message means that the X font server is not running, or if
running, is not serving. You might just change USE_XFS from "Y" to "N" to
get the workstation going. Check out in services if xfs is being started,
and if it is, check in the /etc/X11/fs/config file for the line stating:

Yes but Win4Lin isn't free, is it ? I have tried Wine, but it's not able to run
Dreamweaver 2 ... :-(
Is CygWin able to run X applications ?
