GDM has problems LTSP package could use KDM as default ar provide with
additional scripts that could handle this.
I am not able to switch to KDM, and still rebooting the server for it to
start fresh sessions.
My server gets very slow after sometime.
My gdm is set to respond 100 sessions.

maybe its OT now, but:
i HAD also in default installation 3 copies of lts.conf (not ltsp)
/etc/lts.conf
/etc/ltsp/lts.conf
/opt/ltsp/i386/etc
(changes in EVERYONE (sometimes! - very strange) affected "things")
first two of them aj removed (rm) & i created "ln -s ..." to
/opt/ltsp/i386/and.so.on
Julius,
Yes.. The guy buying them has asked the purchasing
person to order an initial 10. We'll see how that
goes.
They've done great work on LTSP itself. What about
the guys who do the etherboot work? I think they
deserve something, too. As well as the rdesktop
people.

Joseph,
The first thing I'd look for is the cards PCI Vendor and Device ID.
if you can put the card in a machine and boot linux from a harddisk,
then run: lspci -n
Look for the lines that say 'Class 0200'. Those are the network cards.
See if you get the proper 10ec:8139 value.
Also, check
Julius,
I found a nice 100/10BaseT card with wake-on-lan and
bootrom slot for $8.50 so far. A blank eprom is only
$5 or less.
Generally, their prices have always been pretty
high, except that you know you're getting something
that's definitely going to work with Linux/LTSP.

hi
i cant enable network boot using my rt8139 card. ive downloaded the
zrom file for rt8139(10ec, 8139), put it in my nm27c256 rom, used
software to enable the lan card's boot rom and configured bios to boot
from network but the non system disk error is still there. ive tested
this on 2 lan cards
I have a problem where after a certain amount of time. The X server dies
for lack of memory. I was running OpenOffice, Mozilla, terminal, and
Evolution when it occurs. In addition, if I do a lot of cut and paste, the
stability of the system becomes more fragile and many times either crashes

Can anyone recommend a place to find the best deal of
quantity of 20-30 etherboot NICs?
Disklessworkstations.com charges about $35 each for
Linksys cards. Another place will sell them for $15
each, in quantities of 100 or more...but not less.
Any advice of anything in between, on price point?
Has anyone tried to install glibc2.3 on the client file system? I need this to
run certain apps locally. Is there an easier way?

Cheers, Andy!
Exactly what I want! Thanks!
I could have done it myself but why reinvent the wheel (when I know that
it wouldn't be as round as yours)..

In this case he has locally loaded linux on each of the machines. Two really
quick ways to do what he wants is either of the following.
1. In the inittab file switch the machine to boot to default runlevel
three and put this in rc.local.
/usr/X11R6/bin/X -query server.domain.com

James, I'm afraid that I have poorly expressed myself.
What I want is the ability to run lilo which then finds the rom from hd and
then boot's up the os.
I don't actually want anything to run from the hd.

Hi

But oh so hard!
I want the server to have 4 X sessions
2 local
1 indirect to localhost
1 query to another.host
How to get kdm to do this?
GDM: gdm.conf - easy
XDM: Xsession etc - easy, but no auto-login
KDM:

Hello everyone,
I'm trying to work out a good generic server setup that I can deploy at
multiple locations. I need a bit of help if you can on what sort of
power is needed for x number of clients, and which hardware is good to
get and good to avoid.
The server will be running, eventually, kde 3.
