This seems to account for the difference in how the machines operated.

the firewall will prevent this
workstation from booting when I explicitly tell the firewall to accept all
connections from this machine.
(I have also explicitly set up the firewall to allow DHCP from all machines
and to allow bootps from all mahcines and still no results).

I have had a working LTSP system in my home for several months now. This
weekend I decided to set up a firewall on the same server as my LTSP server.

Thus, at this point I am at wits end. I am hoping someone can help. Frankly,
it should not be this hard to set up an LTSP workstation and get something
as basic as icons on the desktop working properly.
