I tried doing this by setting the runlevel of my RH7.1 server to 3, but
then I couldn't get xdm to start on my LTSP clients (the clients just
show the grey Xwindows screen with the X cursor).
Any clues pleas?

Hugo,
I do not run KDE because of the amount of memory it requires for each session
and also I cannot lock down the desktop (don't know how at the moment).
Instead I use IceWM -- very light weight resource wise, and is compatable
with gtk (gnome) applications and many qt (KDE) applications.
Thanks, I undestand better now, but what about KDE? I
would like to give my users the friendliest
environment posibble so I plan to let them use
StarOffice, Konqueror/Java, Kmail, Koffice, KDEgames,
KDE development environment, Xchat and Gaim. Is that
too much for my hardware? (P3-800-1Gb-40HDD_UD
Hugo,
The video card in the server has NOTHING to do with the video performance
on the workstations.
You could run a server with no video card at all, if you wanted.
For my servers, I typically don't even run Xwindows.
I would go for the absolute minimum video ram on the server, leaving that

The server's video card is absolutely irrelevant to the terminals.
Every terminal needs its own video card, which provides all video
features available to the terminal. No more, no less, as no hardware
can be/is shared...

choose for video? How important is server video card
