Can't you get it by grabbing the 3 source packages from here:
http://packages.debian.org/sid/lyx (see section on right)
and execute
dpkg-source -x lyx_2.0.0-1.dsc
Descend into the subdirectory lyx_2.0.0 and you will find it.

Jürgen,
It would be useful to those using the 64 bit version of Ubuntu. You
could install the i386 package on an amd64 system using a forcing option
in dpkg but this is suboptimal.

No problems here on a Ubuntu system. The compilation and the results
look good. There seems to be a noticeable speedup in the response
connected with insets (Figures etc) on my system.
My thanks to the developers for this great software.

Indeed. I'll fix that for the next revision, for now it will work if you
first do
fakeroot debian/rules build
fakeroot debian/rules binary

I tried the Debian diff script with the following result after the
fakeroot command:
make: *** No rule to make target `build-stamp', needed by `build-arch'.
Stop.

Compiled and ran OK for me (Ubuntu 5.10). One piece of feedback which
might be of use: 1.4 seems quite sluggish compared to 1.3.7. If I wheel
my mouse through the text there is a sensation of considerable delay at
times with 1.4 which is absent in 1.3.7. This is noticeable with the
