I am working on totally understanding a LaTeX template so that I can modify

Could be, Angus. I've used .eps files in my book with no problems. In this
case I'm explicitly using the PDF viewer, not pdflatex. Just tried the latter

Not strange at all. The problem is that apalike.bst has not been designed for
natbib, but for a different package (apacite.sty). So don't expect it to work
with natbib.

OK. I already have a few citations in the text.

According to the beamer class template descriptions, short talks are for

talks span 15-45 minutes. Other than the number of pages suggested for the
latter two templates, are there any other meaningful differences?

I've been exchanging a document with a colleague, so we can both work on

Hello All.
I recently noticed a (possibly) bug in LyX ERT.
I'm using LyX kmaps to input English and Russian. I also have the XKB
extension correctly set up.
I'm not able, however, to input Cyrillic in ERT mode with neither XKB
nor LyX kmaps.
I need that -- as an example -- to encapsulate Russia

Isn't this described in the userguide?
