is there a shortcut I can use to get to my extras menu from the finder window
or another place? I need to quickly be able to see if dropbox is uploading
files or not. this is an ongoing argument that I have with dropbox
occasionally.

Hi,
If you want a one-key solution, you can use control-F8 to take you to the
extras menu. VO-m-m will also do this, but it takes two keystrokes.

Actually, command shift comma won't get you into the preferences window for
safari. just use command comma.

In addition to Sarah & Phil’s responses, I’ll add the following:
1. There is a built-in hotkey to announce the date & time. The hotkey is Right
Option + T. I believe this hotkey is disabled by default. To enable it, press
VO+F8 to open the VO Utility, select Commanders, select the Keyboar
I find using VO and pressing letter m twice is the quickest way to access menu
extras, for checking battery etc. Checking the time might already be set up via
hot keys, by default. On my Macbook Air it was. The keystroke is right option
key with letter t.

The reason I don't teach that at all is the key board short cut works but it is
so slow, it's way way quicker to go to the extras menu. It takes about 30
seconds for tghe key stroke about 10 to 15 once you get the hang on your vo
keys to do the same.
