Hi folks, I now have a working Windows 7 partition on my Macbook. I currently use Carbon Copy Cloner to back up my Mac HD. I also have Time machine running as well. I don't want to have to go through the process of getting Windows up again. How do I best back up this Bootcamp

Gordon, I didn't know about Win clone I Googled it, downloaded it, ran it, and no go it only works on Leopard and Snowy, On one site it alsop said it was discontinued. I don't know if that means on that site or in general. The version I found was 2.2. Is there another option out th

Hi Eric We neither of us knew about that discontinuation of the software, sorry about that. Actually this is something that you should be able to get over by doing a sector-level backup of the hard drive. I'm sure there are Mac utilities out there which do that. I will investigate. Gordon

Hi Gordon and others, Perhaps I need to use VM Fusion? I don't use windows much so bootcamp was good enough for me. also I only have 4 GB ram so I did not want to share resources. If I were to instal VM Fusion would windows then back up with CCC as part of my Macintosh HD? Also, Can

Eric Fusion isn't a backup utility, so you'd be no better off. Gordon On 2 Sep 2011, at 20:09, Eric Caron wrote: Hi Gordon and others, Perhaps I need to use VM Fusion? I don't use windows much so bootcamp was good enough for me. also I only have 4 GB ram so I did not want to share

Hi Eric, Your assumption about being able to back up your FUsion VM with CCC is correct. When you don't want your Mac's resources being used by Windows, simply stop the VM. I use a Fusion VM of Windows 7 with 2 GB of ram and it works quite nicely. There's no noticeable slowdown on the Mac side

I was hoping that once VM Fusion was running with Windows CCC would consider it part of the Macintosh HD and just back up the whole thing. I could then ultimately ditch bootcamp. It sounds like that is not the case. So other solutions would be greatly appreciated! Eric Caron On Sep 2, 2011,

Hi Eric, THe question is whether or not you're running a VM with a virtualized hard disk. If you do that, then yes, the VM is just one more file for CCC to back up on your Macintosh HD. If not, and you use the Bootcamp partition with Fusion, I'm not sure what happens, as I've never needed that

Hello Zack I have been participating in, and watching this thread and I have a query. My understanding is that, if you want to backup a BC partition from the mac you'd have to use a sector-level backup utility. I don't think either Super Duper! or CCC will allow you to do that because as I unde

Hi Lynn, You're quite correct. CCC or SuperDuper would not back up any bootcamp partition, you'd need another backup utility to do that. I'm not sure what programs are available for such tasks, as I find CCC adequate for my needs. This is probably a good argument in favor of single-file VM c

hello Zack And the point I was trying to make here, but neglected too was that even if you used Fusion and ran your instance of Windows from that using your BC partition which, I am sure, is perfectly possible, that wouldn't enable you to back up the Windows install any more easily. So you'd be
