You know, for most practical purposes, it can. I haven't really had good luck getting tables to work, but i'm still back on sl. Hopefully things have improved in two years, lol. I've certainly submitted professional reports with it, and had them look reasonably attractive. By the way, text edit

Okay, I wondered if format support would ocme into it. Still, from what I hear, any file formatted in one program will likely not be formatted correctly in another, so I don't see this as specific to Textedit. Hi Alex, well I use a free app called Bean and it works for me. I mainly got it because Text Edit can't display your word count and tell me how many pages I have written. Where as with Bean all I have to do is one simple keystroke and I get all the info in a dialog box. I have also been able to

Pages is accessible. That is the word equivalent in the iwork suite. Text edit does have a decent amount of features built in. Comparing it to notepad or word pat simply doesn't do text edit the proper justice. Unless you're doing complex word processing, you might not need pages. Oh, just anoth

Hi! Well I too went to rosie's page and I found an executable install link for Bean. I first did a cmd+enter on it and something happened, but I couldn't tell you what. Then I tried a VO+spacebar and got a file not found on this server with a 404 error page. So lets face it. I think I need to

The way I see it, you have one other choice: only use Mac! If you have a doc or docx file, will converting it to rtf, then saving it in that format, solve the problem? I suppose this isn't a surprise, though, as no two editors do things the same way, so compatibility in all aspects of formatting
