Is there a way either using MI 5.5 or Vertical Mapper, to select a polyline
and insert nodes say every 4.8 metres along the line?
Many thanks

Dear List,
I have two tables, one with points (some 30,000 records) and
the other with polylines (some 260,000 records). They describe land-use
patterns. I must to select the polylines surrounding points with a given
attribute to convert them to regions (with MapLogix).
How I can select
When I try to convert labels to text objects (using the mapbasic function
LabelInfo(window_id, layer_nr, LABEL_INFO_OBJECT)) I never get all of the
labels converted and sometimes my program crashes with the message that
there is no current label.
Also I have trouble with scaling rotated text
Try my node_space.mbx - available at mapinfo-l shareware archive. This will
insert nodes into a polyline object at an interval approximating a user
specified distance. Its approximate because its optimized to produce even
node spacing. More about that in the docs that are with it. I use it to
Can anyone help me?
I want to create a new ployline/polygon object from existing objects without having to
snap to each and every node (in some instances there are hundreds). Is there a way of
selecting the corners of the existing object and create new points along the new
object that match
Sarah: I've come across a few cases where I had imported a file into MapInfo, and had
saved it without doing any edits, but when I came back to reopen and edit it, the file
seemed to be "read-only". Work-around seemed to be: save a copy of the file ("save
copy as" ) from MapInfo. Then,
Hello everyone,
I was wondering if anyone can help me with a Map Basic problem I am having.
I'm trying to automate a thematic map using the "Region, individual values,
black and white" template. This map is suppose to result from values
extracted from a selection performed prior.
The selection
Hello,
If my last message ever gets posted, I would just like to update that I have
figured out my problem by using the 'Run Command'. It works fine... But I
still have problems trying to alter the default shading to black and white
'brush' patterns instead of shading the polygons with
Here are some rules of etiquette from the ArcView-L that, I believe, would
help us very much here.
It doesn't really bother me that people on MapInfo-L reply publicly, but it
does when you get 5 people sending their same replies to a person and the

Hello,
I have been using MI for sometime now. I have always had this
question, but never asked it. So here goes it.
Is there a way to join tables, without using the create thematic
option, similar to ArcView's join?
I would appreciate all input.
Thanks.
Hi up there,
I am sorry to say that in Brazil we use a lot of pirate softwares too. In
some cases these softwares are officially acquired after a testing
period and I think it is a good institutional or individual strategy. I
must remember you that in the Third World we dont have the

Dear Agustin:
"Intersects" works very well with polylines. You may create a buffer
around your points, and write something like:
Select * from MyBuffer, Polylines where obj Intersects Polylines..Obj
into GonnaBeTransformed.
Also, polylines do so have centroids.

As for the rest, I do agree with Steve. It would be nice to not have
everybody post all their replies publicly and I completely agree with the
idea of the person who asked the question posting a summary of all the
answers they got (its the least they could do for all the help they got!).

Thank you to George M. Smith, Cindy Reid, and Michael Goldberg.
The combined suggestion was to use SQL Select dialogue. Place my two

The result will be a query table.
Friends,
I've translated MI tab files with XYZ coords into dxf format (eventually to be
used in AutoCAD). Problem is, all the points loose the Z dimension, no 3D. I want

This happens a fair bit and it's okay. The values are context-specific.

Dear Listers,
Does anyone know of a way of replacing string sequences within multiple
files in one go.
For example, I have about 50 workspace files which I need to move to
another project directory (along with the associated *.tab files etc.)

The easiest way to get it is to download the files you need already in
MapInfo format from Directions Magazine. Go to http://www.directionsmag.com
and look under Free GIS Data for Geographic Features. All the NOAA sets are

Hi Laith,
We have a free program called "Contour to DXF Plus" that translates a MapInfo
table to a DXF file with a z value (which is stored in a column).
To get a free copy, download it from http://www.spatialplus.com/products.htm
Hope this helps.

Hello listers,
I'm looking for a mapping/data capture program that will run on a 3com Palm
pilot, and can import/export MIF files. I've searched the Mapinfo-L archive,
no luck. Anyone know of such a thing?
Cheers

Hello Listers!
How do I go about emailing one of my workspaces to someone? The person
does have MI 5.5, and my workspace was created in Ver. 4.5. will this
create problems?
Thanks in advance for your response,
