Yes - you can do this with ObjectInfo. Not only will ObjectInfo tell you
what object type is, if the object type is text it will tell you what
the text is.
So you could use
Select where ObjectInfo(Obj,OBJ_INFO_TYPE) = OBJ_TYPE_TEXT into DECLAN
then
Update Table DECLAN

No it is not. This is one of the areas where MapInfo is weak.
For any selection made all objects must be in the same table. You can
however write MapBasic code to achieve it but the coding is not simple.
You would need to duplicate objects into an additional table and
maintain a field
If you wish to use Table> Update Column and in the value column type:
ObjectInfo(obj,3)
The field will be updated to the text for that object.
You can get the same thing using this function in a select statement.
