Gabor,
You can take a look at the following messages in the archives (there are
others as well) and hopefully that should solve your troubles.
I am sending a text file with the contents of these messages directly to
you also(didn't want to fill the listers' mailboxes).

Hi
Just a little note on the subject of using coordinates in lat/lon:
MapInfos Longitude/latitude is based on (Degrees,Minuts,DecimalSeconds) not
(Degress,Minuts,Seconds) as used by most sea-GPS recivers. So You would have
to convert your coordinates to the right format before using them in

We would like to print maps in two different paper sizes: A4 and A0. Is
there a solution to change the properties of the objects (e.g. line
width, text size) according to the paper format?
Thanks a lot for any hints!

Hi Gabor,
This is a topic what I asked on the list before.
I received several kind mails of solution.
I have saved copy as and changed the projection using that button . I then
load the new table and sure enough it comes up with the new coordinate
system. The problem is that at that point I

Does anyone have any code \ bright ideas to take ASCII XYZ data and convert

I want to import XYZ values into MI grid format, and USGS appears to be the

Hello all.
I know this is an age old topic but was wondering if anyone had any
comments. Basically it involves printing from layout windows to scale. I
remember a User Group meeting a few years back where Lazlo Bardos was in
attendance, and was asked about this to which he replied that it was

Hi MapInfo List,
Its Spring day here in the South. So we are giving away a free map
navigation toolbar called Pan.MBX which users can download from
the Free section of our website.
The toolbar is especially useful for close-up work across entire

Richard,
The major drawbacks you describe are the result of shortcomings native to

Hi Dennis,
How does ArcView know how to project the files and display the entities - is
the information stored in some higher order of file like a project or theme

Well, occasionally there are some extremely large and/or
frequently updated datasets where it would be useful to
be able to map Shape directly..maybe in the MB to open
you could specify the projection (e.g. always NAD '83)
so it wouldn't have to be Interactive.. I realize you can

Hi Harry,
I have also heard that the American market does not print to scale. I still
find that statement hard to believe, printing to scale is the the biggets
complaint I get from my users, everyone wants to be able to do it and they
all get very frustrated with the scale conversion method.

Harry,
In the past I've used Discover, a "bolt-on" designed for mineral exploration

I guess the core of the problem is that there are two distinct types of

Hi,
I've been getting that strange creeping sensation down my spine over these
calls for easier scaled plotting, I guess Ive missed something but Ive
been plotting to scale with the standard interface for years, admittedly its
not a one-click task, but its not a heinous chore either...

Anyway, ArcView also uses WOR or in their case APR. So all is set in the

Spencer,
To illustrate what the problem with producing scaled maps in MI is, try
producing a map of a specific geographic feature on an A4 sheet, at the
maximum standard scale that will fit on the page, with a title block, a
north arrow and a decent-looking scale in under 5 minutes. I can do it
Maybe I'm throwing on too late here, but producing maps at a specific scale
can be accomplished in 30 seconds by anyone possessing basic arithmetic
skills:
1. Assuming you have a map window open that shows generally the area you
need to plot, create a new layout. Double click on the mapper frame
Well I have to admit that Richard's method works like a charm - I'd used
bolt-on programs from day one so I've never actually had to do it the hard
way before.
I still think it should be a lot easier and more automated than this. Just
as an example, the Discover add-on gives you a dialogue box
