This is a general problem with the more powerful GPS receivers that can output one of sometimes many datums. If the receiver in fact was set to output NMEA(?) records in the NAD83 datum there is no NMEA string I know of that identifies the datum it is outputting. You simply need to know the datum

Perhaps I'm misunderstanding your question but isn't a buffer what you need to create? If so, you don't need MapBasic, although you can create buffers using the Buffer(), or Create Buffer as Object statements, you simply need to use the Buffer command from the Objects menu.   Keith -Or
