Hi Neil
Newer Shape files come along with Projection in a PRJ file (I think
from ArcGIS 8 on); don't know if MapInfo supports it directly, FME (and
therefore the UT, which is an FME subset should). There is no metadata
and especially there is no lines types, colors or even text in the file

I think the jet engine is part of the MDAC installation, so maybe you should
try installing the latest version of MDAC ?

actually i don't think it's an MI issue, it sounds like you need the jet
DLL's reinstalled. sorry i can't recall the exact stuff right now it's been
a while, but get one of your resident nerds to make sure the latest patches
for Jet and stuff are applied to Office.

The best solution then is to do SHP as well as or better than ESRI
directly? But then again I don't really understand what a "geodatabase"
fully is. SHP files have their own headaches. How well can a
geodatabase be deconvoluted; is this a one to many SHP files solution?
My personal experiences

What kind of features are you looking for. We have used a number of

Does anyone know of an add-on to MapInfo Professional designed for
cadastral mapping?
We are looking for an application that could be implemented county wide

The COGO Line tool that ships with Pro is not a sufficient answer.

Thanks to Julian,
His suggestion was to join the two tables together with a SQL select * from
both tables.
I can then save the query as a table and remove the extraneous columns created.
If there is a simpler, more elegant (read lazy ;-) ) work-around, I would like
to hear from anyone else.
Don't know if this is what you are looking for but you can convert the
Geodatabase to a shapefile and then read the shapefile in MapInfo.

Hello Ross,
I suspect the best route will be to export to Shapefile and then UT into
MapInfo TAB.

Neil,
At the time when you import the SHP file with Universal Translator (UT) you
will have to define the coordinate system. There is a button on the dialog
box for that. When you get "Non-Earth" you have not done so and UT also
didn't find a PRJ file for the SHP file.
Of course you need to

I don't know what you are using, but it seems it is not Engage 3D, as
all you say is defintely wrong. Engage supports raster/grids in many

Tim,
It actually does this check some at least some extent. I just saved a workspace
in MapInfo 8.0 and it was marked as 5.5.
This mark is not (just) to convince you to upgrade, but simply to prevent
MapInfo from trying to open a workspace containing MapBasic commands that it
can't understand.
MapInfo has an annoying habit of sticking the version number of the current
product into Tables, Workspaces, MB programmes, etc. Thus you will find the
in the first couple of lines of the .wor a statement of the version number,
e.g. MapInfo Version 8.0. In most cases just changing the number to e

Hi Jacob
Excuse, but I do not agree with you. VM is a joke compared to Engage 3D
in any sense, Engage 3D is "real 3D", VM is a 2.5D toy, no 3D at all.
And as well the handling of DEMs in Engage 3D is far (better: far far
