Thanks for all of the replies; it seems as

that the problem is greatly increased by the specific actions required for GIS

worrying trends with users within my authority.

Lars,
What objective argument leads you to that conclusion ? If you're
referring to the ability of the TAB format to hold multiple topography, I
find that to be mostly irrelevant, 1) since most use the tables for
single-topography data anyway, and 2) most users are annoyed by the
horrendeous old
, I can still easily divide the topologies into
seperate files with a few queries if necessary.

Hello all,
I have a lot of building polygons which I need to check and then change the
colour of various ones. What I would like, is to be able to select a polygon
and then hit a hot key or ctrl key which changes the colour of the polygon. It
would save me a lot of time rather than having to
edit, then selecting the
colour and OK'ing it all slows the process down. I was hoping there'd be some
definable hotkeys in MapInfo without having to create a mbx.
Thanks
Andrew

Hi John,
I've been looking for one for a while aswell. At the moment, we just use a text
'T' and rotate it to suit. Not ideal, but it works.

When you set the Hotlink options in the layer control, make sure you tick the
'save options to table metadata' box. This should make it available in

Or you can save your table as part of a workspace, and the hotlink settings are
stored in the workspace.

Stephen,
The DETR have a dataset which used their definition of urban areas based on
land-use/population. It's based on 1991 data so is quite dated now. If you search on
www.gigateway.org.uk you should be able to find the details of the dataset and how
they defined urban areas.

Thanks to Mike Osbourn and Angela Winton for their help.
Turning off the hardware acceleration for the 3d window worked for me.

Hello list,
I'm sure I've seen this before but can only find 'create text' references for

Is there a way of inserting the scale in a layout and having it automatically update?

Hello all,
I'm trying to use the Universal Translator to convert a .tab file of point data into
.shp format to use it in Arcpad on a pocket pc. The conversion appears to work ok, but
the point data in the shape file is in 'multipoint' format and Arcpad won't let me
edit the data.
Of course, I

Hello all,
I have two layers of polygons, layer A and layer B. Objects in layer B contain more
than one layer A object . What I want to do is update column in table B where B
objects contain A objects with column X. However, I want to append all of the values
into one field.

Big thanks for writing it, our Land Surveyor thinks it's a godsend. I'd found the tool
on the directions mag site a while ago. (On there, it's down as being written by
Felicia Semple of the MapInfo Corp.)

There have been times on the list where feathers have been ruffled by wrongly
acknowledged or misused mbx's (fair enough).
If it helps, think of it more like me watching my back, not patting yours. :)
Eric,
You must not have received the mail I sent direct to yourself. So here it is again.
The tool you want is on the directions mag website, it's called voparallel at

Axel,
The basic sql statements depend on wether you are querying lines or polygons.
The basic query command is Str$(ObjectInfo(Obj,x))=y)
For x - use 2 to query the line style and 3 to query the fill style
For y - Use either:
Pen(a,b,c) for line queries, where a=width (1 being the narrowest),
Hello all,
In my tentative first steps at linking MapInfo and Access through ODBC, I've created
the link, MapCatalogue etc. and it all seems to work ok. However, when I have the
table open in both Access and MapInfo, the only way I can refresh either is by closing
one or the other down and
dbms button greyed out?
Thanks
