Hiya all..
I'm going over to the UK for a holiday pretty soon. My question is: Is the
sharp mt-77 available in the shops in London? I know it is a strange
question, but I want to know if I should hold out until my holiday before I
buy a new MD recorder. If you have seen one, did you see a

Hello
Does anyone know where I could get hold of a remote for a Sony MZR portable
in the UK? I think its an MZR90 or MZR91. My brother recently destroyed
his, and is eager to get a replacement.
Thanks in advance
Ian

Hi,
today I read a news article (in German) about the Sony MZ-R700 PC. If you go
to the CeBIT next week, you will see it in real life. If you don't go, watch

Well, I have at least a partial answer to whether Mcrew is backwards compatible
with the Sony MDS-PC2. I downloaded and installed it and get the error "PCLK-10
does not respond" when I run it, so apparently it is not backward compatible
to the CAV-50C serial interface. It might actually run
Hi. I just ordered my first Minidisc unit, a Sharp MT831! I'm quite
excited! *calms down* Anyway, I have a question about it's included LiIon
battery ... is it available from anywhere besides Sharp Japan? Reading
about LiIon cells, it sounds as if they last a good thousand

Richard,
Thank you for your response. It wasn't the answer
that I wanted; but at least I know what my options
are. I guess for the time being I'll just keep
playing my MT-15 through the aux input. I was
considering getting a 722 for the less dangerous
front-loading mech if this didn't work
Any one got any posts lying around on how to mod a Sony MZR90 to add a
backlight to the main unit display? No, I appreciate it isn't be easy, but
has someone been there / done this before? (I'd rather not be the first to
make the attempt just in case I inadvertantly write off an otehrwise

Well, you can certainly get them in the UK. I'm pretty sure every country

The 831 is great - rather user-friendly and sounds better than many MD
portables.
Ithink it's best not to leave your 831 standing on the 2 longer sides (the
sides where the mic in, AC jack and line in are). If you do that, often the
pickup doesn't stay where it and will drop down to the bottom
Other things to watch for...
You forgot:
o Try disabling any "motherboard / system monitor applications" - you know,
the kind that come with recent computers that check that your CPU isn't over
temperature, your CPU fans are still working at 5000RPM, etc...
o Try a different VIDEO card or

hello-
i've come to the realization that although i have a portable player and
home recorder, i'd like a portable recorder.
i run a lot of interviews and studies and i'm tired of using those old
tape recorder that sound so crap.
so i was trying to see what y'all recommend. are there any major
Thanks Leon for the suggestion and comments on the 831...Dave in the UK as
well.
Hope it gets here before the Jeff Beck show I have good seats for, in a
small 2,-seat venue! *grin*

For what it's worth,
I've used only one portable player/recorder, the Sony MZ-R50. It has
been a great piece of gear. That battery life is not the absolute
longest, but it's very competitive (I've seen as long as 6hr recording on
internal power alone for a lecture). It's not the

I just noticed that when playing a CD with Windows Media player, the
volume is adjusted by the "Wave Volume", whereas when using the
CD player program, the volume is adjusted by "CD Volume". I conclude
that Windows media player is actually digitally extracting ("ripping") the
file and passing
I would definitely look at uBid. If you are getting a recorder for minimal
use, and size isn't an issue, you should look at the Sharp MD-MT15 they put
up frequently. You could get it pretty cheap in comparison, and I think
that Sharps are much easier to use, especially when recording.

h.does this mean there weren't any problems or you would have

This last point is a curious one because it really really is bad practice

Yes,
hello-
just came across this. if such a thing is possible, then why don't they make
regular players like this? at 650 meg, the audio wouldn't even need to be
compressed.

that Windows media player is actually digitally extracting ("ripping") the
file and passing it to the sound card as data, whereas CD player just
sends the audio from the drive via the audio cable to the analog mixer
on the sound card. Interesting...
Yeah, I said the same thing last
Yes, they do. You can turn it off in winamp, if you like. I don't know about
WMP. They do this in order to sample the audio stream so they can generate
visualization goodies off of it (as opposed to just going straight through the
cable, the programs would never see the data, and hence would
