I've recently purchased a Leadtek Winfast 4X soundcard with optical in and
out for MD use. This soundcard is based on the Cmedia 8738 chipset.

I assume you mean from the card to the portable (only the MZ-1 has
a digital out). I'm not sure whether that card will output SCMS
Penultimate or SCMS Final, but either way you will be able to make
a copy from your PC to your portable MD.
For transferring from an MD deck to PC, SCMS is
a digital out). I'm not sure whether that card will output SCMS
Penultimate or SCMS Final, but either way you will be able to make
I meant SCMS Penultimate or SCMS Unlimited. Doh! :o)

If you can't find one for a reasonable price, a multi voltage adapter rated at
500 mAh and assorted plugs. But

Jim, I'm not sure what you are asking? music CDRs and data CDRs are
just a gimmick to charge more for the music CDRs.
Again, am I misunderstanding your question?

If by that you mean turning a data CD-R into something that can be used in
a home or studio CD-R recording deck, no. The bits that identify the media

I mistakenly sent my reply privately to Jim, but Shawn covered everything I
wanted to say.
What some of us are wondering is why, if Jim has a burner in which he hopes
to alter the type byte of the CDR, he needs to change the type byte at all.
He could just burn the audio tracks in the same

That wasn't Shawn, it was the Rat who explained to Jim that the type byte on
a CDR is not alterable. Apologies for the misattribution.
