MD: newbie question re: MZ-R30

I don't have any minidisc devices, however i am thinking of purchasing a used Sony MZ-R30. Is this a good unit? I don't have many choices, so im looking for maybe "dont buy it and save your money" answers, rather than "buy this or that instead" answers. Thanks for any advice :) -
