Good question. This has been talked about in the past - I remember Rick doing some looong tests along this line, calculating disc revolutions over a 24hr period etc. Perhaps he has details on the MDCP. My 701 stops the disc spinning and goes into a kind of standby mode if left on rec-pause (or pl
