AFAIK, Neons all had the 2.0L Neon engine in them (along with a few of the cloud

that would degrade the belt material, they would easily go 150K or more on
the original belt.
Chrysler has had their act together on timing belt technology for a long
time - even the 80's model 2.2 liter engines would go
By the way, when I had the valve cover off I had the crank at 0 degrees
and the mark on the cam was dead center on its TDC mark -- is that the
indicator that I don't have any significant chain stretch yet?
The engine is coming up on 200K miles.

Yep, you have no chain stretch. And it's actually not chain stretch, its
chain wear. What happens is the pivots wear over time and the chain
gradually gets longer longer. The slack gets taken up by the chain
tensioner.
Stretch a new chain on the garage floor then try compress it end to end

The other thing to consider is the wear pattern of any machine part is set
when that part is relatively new. This is why the break-in period is so
critical. Also, you don't know what was run for the first 100,000 miles of
your engine's life. They may have run Mobil 1, Wally World recycled oil, or

Sorry, I am slow on this one (was admitted to ER and spend 14 hrs there due

Turned on the air conditioning this afternoon, for the first time. Was
a little stuffy, 82 degrees inside...
Tonight I notice that the thermostat is showing 79 with the set temp
being 77. Air at the registers is cool but flow seems awfully low.

I must have had a bunk one then, since my Aries tossed it's belt at
about 110,000 miles in the middle of the night.
No engine damage, but it was a PITA -- I had the new belt in the
