I thought about that but let's just say I picked the car up in a trailer park,
not really the kind of people I want to fool with. This car seems to run just
fine and interior is nice but it's got the Illinois surface rust on every panel
and will either sell it as a cheap runner or part it out. I

I am fairly sure they mean the kick-down cable which connects to the
throttle linkages near the rear of the valve cover. It should be adjusted
to have a small amount of free play. Just tinker with it. Too little - no
first gear, too much - no shift down.
