Get a SATA 3 controller (I think I paid around $30) and install in the older computer and then you can run SATA drives and especially fast SSD drives.  That's what I did with my older PCs running XP and then moved them on to Win7 Pro 64 bit.  The drives are really fast with a SATA 3 controller.
