Get a SATA 3 controller (I think I paid around $30) and install in the older
computer and then you can run SATA drives and especially fast SSD drives.
That's what I did with my older PCs running XP and then moved them on to Win7
Pro 64 bit. The drives are really fast with a SATA 3 controller.

I am using about a 5 year old Lenovo with plenty hdd space and copied
everything over. Works fine but slow. Probably takes 10-15 minutes to load
everything up, then is slow from there

One of the problems I found was that these computers are so old they don’t have
SATA interfaces, meaning they’re PATA hard drives. About the largest PATA hard
drive you can find in laptop size is 160GB. They’re tough to find and pretty
expensiv
The C3s never worked with a USB serial port adapter. I know a number of people
who have tried, and have yet to be successful.
The reason the T30 and Dell 630 are the computers of choice is because they’re
the most powerful as far as processor and memory of anything that’s got a
physical serial
I run mine with a PCI or whatever you call it serial port adaptor card and it
works fine. It did not work out of the box thought I had to mess with some of
the settings of the card and got it working.

for some specific hardware? PCs are pretty much universal these days,
aside from some very detailed issues with however their motherboards
work to talk to things, but even a lot of that is standard, so you can

I would avoid CarSoft. It seems to have a lot of gaps in coverage of different
models in the OE parts. That is, for some models it won't work or allow access
to some of the OE functions.
