throttle that controls the shift points and a vacuum signal (from the injection

The valves on the top of the valve cover manage the EGR, I believe, so they

Kevin,

There should be a VCV (vacuum control valve) on top of the injection pump that
is the major player in the shift/vacuum function. Vacuum goes to the VCV and
then to the vacuum modula
We took Hildegard out for a test drive today, and she seems to be running

speed and engine RPM rather than throttle positions. All vac lines leading
inside the car are disconnected and capped, but all of the lines atop
Manual says both sides are the same.

Likely the captive nuts have rusted away to the point that they won't hold

Quick search looks like a replacement, or pull and rebuild the reverse
clutch/shifter valve, which you might as well rebuild the whole thing or
replace it with a known working tranny.
So basically the car is a boat anchor at this point without a fair
amount of work, and maybe money.

When I went to take out the 4 bolts holding the plate that the rear

be a way to hold the captive nuts. Anyone BTDT?
