I've never been all that excited about the power to weight ratio of a 617 in stock form. I'd want to wind it up a bit for use in a truck. A 60x would probably be a better choice. Jeep guys use mostly TDI engines because they're teeny by comparison. Even the old VE engines can do 150hp with

I've thought about an OM617 in my 2004 Frontier. It's a V6 4WD with a 5-speed. The gearing seems about right based on engine RPMs at the shift points. In the specific case of my Frontier, though, it's too rusty for me to want to invest that much work in it. Also there's nothing wrong with its V6

There is a company in Scandinavia that has kits for marinzing for Mercedes diesels. Its not too uncommon to see 602s as marine engines in Europe. But they're fairly low output compared to any engine we'd find here in the states in most boats. Its hard to compete with a Mercuriser V8 in terms of

“Marinizing” an engine, that is, making it suitable to operate in a boat, is a very tricky business and typically involves some serious modifications to an engine, primarily in the cooling and exhaust systems. A water cooled exhaust manifold would be required, along with a heat exchanger

That's smarter, all the donor parts could be of value. Much easier to transport to your transplant location. Consider using an OM603 or OM606 turbo engine, which can provide a lot of the torque needed to move a pickup in a more satisfactory manner. An OM606 turbo would need a mechanical
