Greetings all, It’s roughly time for my annual MB diesel report and obligatory
inquiry. There are rumors that my SIL will be the new owner of W123 240D. The
family lives in WI which limits my diesel assistance to verbal support over the
phone. But he enjoyed a prior career as a diesel mechani

Ah ok good to know about 040. It sorta looks single stage but I can't
tell. My wagon is peeling clear coat on the hood.
I have to buff up the S550 soon, 040 too, the new heated windshield
washer hose arrived yesterday on a slow boat from China so I can get
that in, then the rest of the stuff
Never quite understood, maybe someone here with more paint knowledge than us
can tell you. I just know that 040 is a single stage color. There are others,
maybe arctic white, but I’m not completely sure.
You might recall my efforts to recover Tarek’s former S500 that was badly
faded/oxidized:
So how does one know if it is single stage or clear coated? I think the
options list says something like “paint protection” or something, I’ve never
known exactly what that means. I’ll have to look up the details

Yeah I don’t know. When the $900E500 went in for the SBC the stealer checked
it. I haven’t had the wagon in yet.

The single stage paints are the best, as they’re really hard to damage when
“correcting”. The roof of the ML550 is really nasty due to it appearing to have
bene parked outside under a tree or something. If the weather wasn’t so
oppressive in FL I would be hitting it with my high speed polisher a

Pretty sure that’s W211s only, and even if it was, that was for the roof itself
(laminated glass that has separation of the layers) and likely wouldn’t cover
the issue that mine has.
I’ll check just to be sure, though.

Absolutely everything about that car and the background of every photo backs up
rural Missouri location.

I’m assuming that although it says fuel type Diesel, it’s powered by the
Expedition’s Ford Triton V8, not the OM617.951.

The headlights are the kind that come on when the car is on. What’s that
callEd, DRO or DRL or something? I think they might either be some super
bright bulbs as they look kinda blue or LEDs that are causing a fault. But they
work. I’ll leave good enough alone.

Now that I have a MIG welder, and am reasonably competent with it, a
sunroof would get welded closed. We special ordered the Subauru to get one
without a factory hole in the roof.

Why would the driver side strut and control arms be replaced but not passenger
side? Do they not wear about the same?

I don't understand the appeal of sunroofs. At least here, they are something I
might use a few times a year. They are otherwise just potential sources for
leaks and trouble. I would not miss having one in the slightest.

That's only because I never heard of Bosley in the 1960s.

I have come to the conclusion that I’m not going to bear the near $1,000
(parts) expense for the repair of the sunroof in the ML550. While replacing the
headliner would be the ideal time to do it, I just don’t see the value for the
cost.
