One, rather brutal method of loosening stuck bolts is to use a large
welder/spot welder to heat the bolt cherry red and, after it has cooled down
use a bolt remover, (reverse spiral socket thingy).

Your reasoning is good. The only caveat is that it may be very difficult to
hold the valve up, install the spring and compress same whilst trying to
install the keepers. If the valve falls to the piston crown by some amount that
"gap" will require that the spring be further compress

Valve guides are replaced with the head off. It is theoretically possible to
pull the guides with out removing the head but most likely the valve seats will
be worn and would no longer be concentric with the valves and guides. The
guides are driven in and usually have to be reamed.

Problem was #6 cyl. had a burnt exh valve. Also found that both sets of guides

downhill, however it got to 105 with great force. It was a 67 conv. that had
been setup as a quarter mile bandit at the local speedway. HO 400 from the

Rick, if it's the 190DT it may be the head gasket, that's what happened to mine
after being a little overheated. While the head was off the valves, guides, and
head surface were serviced, runs very well now.

I would have loved to get the correct gasket, only available from Bosch etc.,
however said kid had to go to his grandmothers place a hundred or so miles away
and reducing the leak with red RTV was better than running out of oil in
transit. Time will tell.

that seems to emanate from the IP. The "side plate" was missing a screw and the
other 3 were hand tight only. The gasket was some kind of petrified rubber, so

14 tabs on the antennae that I have. The cover has the tabs facing out and they
latch under the outer edge of the base. A small screwdriver (or ?) depresses
each tab in turn and this will release the cover. HTH (Clear as mud?)

When bought this car it had a giant oil leak from the front timing cover,
broken in 3 places from (I guess) a broken chain, also pan had chip out of it.
Ran well and did not smoke. Found that the engine had been replaced with one
from an '85 with manual trans.

By my experience you have a water flow problem.
1. Failed or part open thermostat.
2. Partially plugged radiator.
3. Water pump failure.
MB water pumps are robust, so if it is not leaking, a quick r&r to check the
vanes will show any failures. The rest, you should check for crud
