I suspect the best place for transmission throttle rod and vacuum information is
that 1978 mechanic's introduction to 116.120 book that's somewhere at my
parents' house, but if I could find the right transmission .pdf it should

Scott,
Thanks for the diagrams, but still no joy. The first one is somewhat close, but
instead of the vac switch on top of the valve cover, mine has linkage rods that
must be adjusted just right. These coordinate the throttle pedal with the IP
and the rod to the tranny. Again, it's strange to h

Scott,
My car has the rod to the tranny and not the cable. Again, per Mark at Sun
Valley, it's an "early, simplified" version. The switches on top of the valve
cover are tied to both the IP and the EGR circuit, so I don't think you could
bypass them. My car does not have the EGR, but my 1983 30

Curly,
Yes, Mark and others have advised me that the tranny is getting too much vacuum
to shift properly. And it seems the most obvious culprit is the vacuum
modulator on top of the IP, but I won't know for positive until I can get the
vacuum checked. I hope it's not as the last time it went, t
You are getting too much vacuum at the transmission. if it happened
suddenly, I doubt the problem is the modulator, but I don't know the
modulator failure modes, so maybe someone here can tell us or Mark at
Sun Valley can tell you. Anything that restricts the vacuum before

So...an update. It seems that my 1980 300SD has a "simplified, early version"
vacuum setup for that model year. I have the 1980 MB service manual and the
vacuum diagram does NOT match. I spoke with Mark again at Sun Valley and he
advised me that my setup is the simplified, early version. To clar
