From what I remember the problem is a hard 2-3 shift, don't think it is
likely to be a vac issue if it is only one shift that is wonky. More
likely to be a problem in the valve body or somewhere else but I could
be wrong.

But are rarely needed, it's the accumulators that always go bad.
The general rule, IIRC, is that if the struts aren't leaking then
leave them alone.

This TD is a sorting out car. SWMBA does want a more "together"
version of the car, but I know it too will have issues that need
addressing even if it looks much better. All the little niggling
things like switches and stuff on either TD will need attention
unless the PO was really anal a
If the suspension is rock hard and bouncing in the rear, it's just the
accumulators. If it's mushy and dragging, the struts are shot.
Accumulators are $90 each or so, struts are $500 and up.

The rear suspension is not difficult, but you do have to put the car up
on stands (the rear wheels will drop when you open the lines) to change
out the spheres. They are under the panel between the rear and third
seats, look for a couple hidden screws in the carpet.
If there is no oil in the c

I think there is a large enough reason to find a person hauler, since
SWMBA hates the van and was really bummed that she got bumped for
field-trip duty. Cheap as the day is long, thought we needed a
sprinter, but decided no when she saw the price and rarity of a used
8 person one.

Craig's got it right. You'll spend far more sorting it out than the price
difference would be if you went up to a nicer one. Even with my $1300
300SD, I'm at $2900 total investment and not done yet. I've still got AC,
radiator and some painting (sunroof and a bit of work on the
Ask yourself whether you need this car and it's potential problems?

If he didn't, it wouldn't have needed a new gasket.
I'd be very wary. If they weren't so rare I'd run
