Wow, that's a pretty good maintenance record for a 15 y/o minivan! Our '05
is going to need a set of tires as well since they are showing a bit of
sidewall cracking. The tread would probably make it another year, but it's
not worth having a sidewall failure at speed, that's for sure!

We purchased the '97 new. It's had 1 water pump, 2 idler pulleys/tensioners,
1 starter, 2 batteries, 1 axle seal, and a couple sets of tires in the
115,000 miles. It's using about a quart of oil and a quart of anti-freeze
every 2500 miles now. No leaks. Thed rivers window would rather not come
Update - the van worked fine for SWMBO following the scare and running in
second only event. Son had LOTS of stuff that we HAD to take to MTU, so we
took the risk and loaded up the van to the extent that I couldn't see out
the rear window. Son's 190D was almost as full. We left Tuesday AM for
But does the AC BLOW ICE COLD? And was that on veggie oil?
My son's 300SD is 7 months older than he is. You gotta love it.

Ummm - no. The AC leaks out the refrigerant in 24 hours, and he wasn't
interested enough to find the leak, so his AC is open windows. The heat does
work though, so he's set for the winter up there - we hope!
He respects his engine too much to run anything other than #2 in it --

Good. I have found the vans with 3.3 to be workhorses. The 3.8
have a lot of serious engine problems.
My 00 has sometimes refused to go forward after I back out of the
driveway. Changing oil and filter helps, but it has been this way
over 100K miles. The 98 one time refused to shift
We had a $800 '91 Voyager beater complete with pealing paint and an
occasional 2nd gear sticking probblem as well as the balking fwd gear after
backing out when cold. The above issues were the reason for the low price
although it only had 110K miles. It spent most of the time in town with an

Daughter's MB is the same age as her. She likes it that way. Her
forst one was 3 years older. Not sure about the car's build month.
Son's car is 19 years older than he is. He has had it for 13 years,
and this fall it
We were cruising all around town (OKC metro area) lst week on a 110F in the
shade day, with the AC on full blast. The car - 1 1997 Plymouth Grand
Caravan, 3.3 engine, 115,000 miles - decided to only run in second gear. I
stopped and checked the tranny fluid - it was a bit over full. Procedded to
I would check grounds. Sounds like the trans is not shifting into od and
lockup when there is a high electrical load. Try to run lights, ac, etc and
see if trans acts up again. Negative battery terminal was bad on the last
Chrysler product that gave me very similar issues. Had to drive slow
OK - will do. The tranny is working fine right now - full blast AC, but no
lights. It is only 95 today, so 15 degrees cooler than when we had the
problem.
It was stuck in 2nd. - started in second, and would not shift out. I didn't
have the presence of mind to check reverse when i got home - wish
Don't know that models quirks but it follows current computer logic built
into todays cars to default to a limp home mode when something/anything
violates the electronic boundaries preloaded.
With full air, heat, and what ever other stressors may have been at play
perhaps one of those triggers
Duh! Never even thought to look for codes, since no idiot lights lit up --
I'll see if my generic OBDii reader can find anything.

Yeah... that's what you get for going to the dark side and driving one of
those silly little computer controlled machines. Come back to the
dependable mechanical Mercedes era when something broke off you could see it
hanging and duct tape it in place till you got home. :))
I wonder how many

Check out ttbook.org - waiting for the apocalypse today on npr.
There is more likely EMP than ever before. Interesting show today.

Yup - I've definitaly crossed to the dark side, I have an ML!
No codes to be read. I cleaned the battery posts, didn't see anything else
to clean. I'll change the tranny fluid and filter, they're getting close to
being due anyway.
SWMBO will be driving it this coming week, I'll be keeping my
