Seeing this is a high K motor (380K klicks) I am not surprised and I may
go to higher viscosity oil before next summer.

the same car with the same kind of oil). So, I think it might just be the M104
holds better oil pressure with the 15-40 in it. Plu

y care about
gas mileage (because he doesn't really travel) and wants some comfort but
doesn't care about "luxury" amenities.

describe. Only when the engine is fully warmed after driving does the idle

I've been using cheap 15w40 in my 240D as well. The 190D gets M1 5w40 changed
at 12,000 miles but the 240D leaks way too much for Mobil 1 to make any kind of
sense...

No, it's a gasser, so it's a M104. I think it the OW X might be too "thin" for
my car. I know technically, oils aren't thin, but you all know what I mean.

My M103 in the '91 300E has the opposite symptom - it drops to nearly

I think you need more miles to loosen up the bearings
more. Then it'll drop some when hot. It's _permissible_
to drop to ~1 Bar at hot idle. It's not _required_ to
drop at all!

With the factory short block OM621 i got years ago, the oil pressure
still pegs out and is always at the peg, even warm idle. The old
engine went down to 2 or less when warm, but the bearings were shot.
I put a SW oil pressure gauge on it and found I had to keep the RPM
low when it was cold to
e requires more hp to run the pump, causes seals to leak.

It's permissible for the needle to drop when the oil is hot, but I don't think
it did when the cars were brand new and the bearings were tight.
On my 1979 300SD (~300,000 miles) 2 bar at hot idle with 15W40 was a pretty
reliable indicator that it needed an oil change.
