Northern Tool just sent me an email advertising a sale on shelving:

I have built a lot of rough shelves for the basement and garage. I use
2x4s for the framing and plywood for the shelves. OSB board would also
serve.
I basically build each corner as a pair of 2x4s nailed in an L
shape. These run vertically from the floor to top of shelf.
Shelves are 2x4 spanning

plus our computer club has 6 of them.
Paid 79.99 for them at Sams about 7~8 years ago. They work great.

Looks like Sam's might be the place to go.

I guess I am going to have to go down and look in person. I looked at
the Lowes and HD websites and I do not see anything like I bought in the
past. I had bought 4-5 units in the past but its been a couple of
years. They used to have these units that were pretty decent priced and
good sized.
Exactly. Most of it is garage sale material but lots of it such as Xmas
decorations etc needs to be shelved instead of piled up.

That would be good for the shop. In addition to shelving I need to install, or
have installed, one of those drop down latter attic access things. The entire
area over the garage is wide open but no way to get up there.

That’s probably what I will do since I’m lazy.

Realistically if it was in the attic of the old house for 10 years and you
piled it in the garage and didn't look at it for 5 years its all garbage and
you should just get rid of it. Its clearly stuff you don't need.

Unless you've got significant scrap lumber supplies, buying the
knockdown units is probably cheaper and better, especially if you
consider your time. Unless you need custom fitting, of course.

make your own, but a lot more labor intensive.
I just buy the metal stuff. It goes up quick and is pretty indestructible. If I
need to move it I can.

I was looking for an item in the garage which turned into an impromptu garage
cleaning. This is crap that was in the attic of the old house for
10 Years and has been piled up in the garage at this house for 5 years. Went
thru about a 3rd. Got a lot of trash to get rid of. I need to get some shelv
