Your welcome. For me it was a trivial task because of my
familiarity with the tools to do it. Glad I could use my
skill to help! *smiles*

That attachment is a temp backup file from MS Office.
I extracted it, made some of the URLs into clickable links
and generated a PDF. *smiles*

Gosh thanks for all the replies so quick on Saturday night!
I had similar thoughts to Dan about the relative wisdom of skimping, and
similar thoughts to Curly about how 4 seasons might actually outperform the
mb part.
The guy who suggested four seasons is the son of a 30y mb master mechanic
and
Just to make this even more academic, the original 1987 evaporator hasn't
even failed yet (unlike every other part of the AC system). I am just
switching it because "I" am replacing the dash.

My original evaporator is also holding just fine, 349k miles on my '87 wagon.
My '95 sedan is the leaker, it has about 358k miles.

Which tells me that MB still didn't get it right by the end of production.
to me, that makes a stronger argument
Loren, no idea if the evaporator is original. No service records, I've owned
the car about ten years, about 75k miles. AC was not working when I got the
car, it had been converted to R134a, ignorant "mechanic" had add extra wiring
to try to gerry-rig the compressor to run. New seals and
Might wanna try reattaching as a PDF or sommat. :)

Karl,
I don’t want to sound d*ckish, but why are you cutting corners on a job that
involves easily 20+ hours of work? OK, so you maybe save $200 on an evaporator.
Until you have to take it out in a couple of years when it fails.
You’re saving some serious coin by doing this yourself, I
Don't install an evaporator with copper pipes, those are the ones that
fail at the crimp joint between copper and aluminum core!
This is a bear of a job, one I've done once and need to do again (not
on the same car).
Do it right, you do NOT want to do it twice, believe me. Took me

Would be great to see what is involved. I am ordering parts now. I am told
new drains are in order. Has anyone ever used an evap from four seasons?
They are copper tubed: http://m.ebay.com/itm/171971556986?_mwBanner=1
Just wondering if the foam surround is reusable from the old evap, as this

Ditto, this is not a place to cut corners.
Note from Larry: the new evaporator should be pressurized with nitrogen, which
you should hear escaping with a hiss when the end caps are removed. No hiss?
Get a refund and replacement before the dash is installed.
