tube is large enough to pull oil up through. I don't know of ANY
dipstick tubes that actually extend to the bottom of the oil pan --
that's why you are supplied a tube when you buy the oil sucker.
All the 'fat' MB dipsticks do. Post-197X-ish.

I feed the thinner hose down the dip tube and have been very happy
with the amount I get out. Have not bothered to undo the bolt in the
pan to see if more goes out. Did rip the back end of the pan off once
