well i've yet to see modest mouse live yet due to the fact that the last time
they made it all the way out to atlanta, i was out of town. curse my luck.
i do go to quite a few shows though. my favorite live bands would be, in no
particular order.

wow, sorry to get defensive here..and to
i'm just new to this list too, but one band that i've found is fairly
similar to modest mouse is the pixies. you might not recognize it right
away, but the influence is definitely there.

although the 'sound' isnt exactly the same in the way the mouse and pixies
sound similar, i often find similarities between the feelings given off by
the mouse and the dismemberment plan. mainly the transitions from calm,
serene songs to frantic and bewildered.

Maybe this is my misunderstanding, but the only person that the ticket guy AND the
soundboard guy would ask is Mike, who said NO WAY to cameras or recording devices. I
went to Eugene the next night and one guy is at the soundboard and my friend is all
over taking pictures of the band. They
Hey everyone!

Saturday March 11th (Matinee Show)
No, but I do miss Dave Kendall...

Yes, Modest Mouse is blatantly influenced by the
Pixies, lyrics as well as music composition. It was
really good to hear someone mention The Feelings.
Great band, similar at times I guess, but a completely
different level of appreciation. As far as other bands
that sound like Modest Mouse, there
Could someone please tell me (I know I should have been paying better attention) what
the address to the MM boys page is? have there been any updates to either page
recently?
thank you

all i can say is...you are fucked in the head..elliott is the most gracious
and polite band I have ever met...they have put me up in their apartment/loft
for days on end, bought me dinner, been just amazingly polite and
generousthey are so anti-asshole rock it's not even funnymaybe
The best show ever was Man or Astro-man at the Metro in chicago way back in
dec.96. And although the current man or astro man is still amazingly great
live, they were even better then. They had so much energy and humour... it
was great. i cant describe the pure fun they bring to a show.
i don't know if it's just me, buthas anyone else noticed that the Get Up
Kids are starting to really sell out in a way..i saw them on mtv's 120
minutesblahapart from them being on MTV!, they expressed WANTING
to be on TRL every secondi dunno...did anyone else see that? if
120 mins isnt that bad, promise ring was on there as well, and they
sometimes play a refused video here or there. so what im saying is maybe you
shouldnt equate 120 mins with selling out. Get Up Kids are indeed getting
rather popular, but no more than your pavements or your built to spills. if
The best band to see live is Ben Folds Five...the energy that they
have...it's so great to see a band have that much fun on stage... i highly
recommend seeing them if you can
also, was modest mouse in 120 minutes or something? i saw a post referring to
the show, but i couldnt find the post it

godspeed you black emperor w/labradford and scarnella . . . just something
you have to experience to even begin to comprehend, really.
juno,
has anyone else noticed that the Get Up

What is this "selling out" thing you speak of?

One more thing for now, that i will probably post more than once
There Is a GAS STRIKE april 7-9
Dont buy gas on these days as an effort to lower ridiculous gas
prices...
Tell everyone you know about this so it works...thanks
yeah..cause the last one did so much. I'm all for
Lord, if i hear of one more person that labels the get
up kids "sell outs", i'll just shoot myself. They are
an amazing band, they are going to get big. And what
exactly are they "selling out" to? Did they promise
all the kids that watched them play in basements back
in the day that some day
Yeah...Mouse and the Dismemberment plan are the only two bands I've ever
heard that play soft at first, and then play loud. Nobody else writes
songs about girls either.
Sorry if that sounded mean.

um, I saw that show. I think your confusing that whole conversation where
the new guy said something along the lines of "Oh, I though you guys might
not to be an ass about it, but if we skip buying gas from april 7-9, wont we
just end up buying it on the tenth? What i mean is that, i think its going
to have to be our voices rather than our actions that lower gas prices,
these oil barrons are going to get our money no matter what. The only
Oh yeah! almost forgot,
another band that did this without "selling out" is Pavement!
To me selling out is when a band quits making music for themselves and
makes it for either their fans, record company, critics, nookie, or just
plain out to make money.
I for one am all for bands getting

On the live band tip, the first shows that come to mind are My Life With The
Thrill Kill Kult and Faith No More, both in the early or mid nineties. Those
first few real shows that you see in highschool almost become legendary in
your head. The first time I saw modest mouse they kicked booty
Most people are way off base when they say a band is selling out. But I
think it would be a fun contest to come up with a list of the most
sell-out bands of all time. My vote would have to go for Metallica. I
mean
they were a great coked out metal band, at the fore front of that genre,
