Has anyone had experiences using repeated readings to effect fluency on a struggling student at a 6th or 7th grade level? If you have seen gains in the child's fluency rate, has there also been an increase in the child's motivation and willingness to read? Thanks, Julie _

At the 6th grade level I found great success using my progress monitoring with 3 trials. For progress monitoring I had to record the first trial results, but for the students we would look at growth through the three trials. They could see the goals wcpm and see how much closer they got on the

A few years ago, there was an excellent article in Reading Teacher about "Poetry Pals" - I've found that my 5th graders enjoy reading poetry (limited choice each week) and love the Poetry Cafe we have at the end of the year - yes it carries over into their reading of fiction and nonfiction text
