Love your idea about teaching a retelling unit before we give the DRA2 in
Sept.! I am going to suggest this to my team. Unfortunately, our district
gives us a window of time in which to administer the DRA2, and it will be in
Sept.---no changing that. But we can start from the first week working

hear more from "both" sides of this discussion, although I think "both" may be

I don't pick specific books for this, just whatever books I am reading
within my thematic unit. I also read some of the books from their book
baskets to
show them that those can be retold, too. My children have two talk
partners- front to back and side to side. Sometimes they will pair
