Today, Wednsday, Dec. 16, 2009, 8:00 a.m. a screech owl is in the box. It
appears on the video camera to be sleeping. If the owl is not sitting at the
entry hole, knock on our front door and I will let you come in and watch it on
tv. I will be in most of today.
I was out longer than I expected
Today, Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2009, 10:15 a.m. a gray screech owl is visible at the
wood duck box entry hole.

10:40 am a Blue Jay spotted the owl sitting in the entry hole and it's cries
sent the owl back into the wood duck box.
It looks like there are feathers in the box now from an overnight kill. There
are also a hand full of pellets.
The sun is shinning on the box and entry hole.

Well the Blue Jays got bored and moved on. The owl is back at the entry hole,
10:50 am, basking in the sun. I think today will be a good day to see the owl
as it seems interested in sunning itself.

I've noticed in the past, as well as the present, that My urban
chickadees show no interest in feeding on suet. Even though
the suet is a mere 2 feet from my tube feeder, where they constantly
feed. Has anyone else noticed this behavior? My assumption, is that
urban chickadees
are less

Greetings:
Kirsten and I found an Eurasian Collard Dove this morning just north
of Faribauilt. From Highway 60 and Second Avenue north, in downtown Faribault,
go north till you come to Hwy. 3. Continue on Hwy. 3 for two miles, from
Highway
I can't make a rural comparison, but my urban chickadees used to go
for the suet balls I put out---until I started putting out shelled
nuts. I'm guessing they get enough energy content from those and the
black oil sunflower seeds, that they don't require the extra fat.
(Mine are also a bit spoiled
Sharon and I found a Harlequin Duck at dusk today at the mouth of the
French River east of Duluth. It was a male just coming into full
adult plumage. It was foraging with a Mallard in the shallow water
near shore and in the river itself. This is just inside the boundary
of Saturday's Duluth
Seven intrepid souls met at the Black Dog (Xcel Energy) power plant at 3:30
p.m. to view gulls, waterbirds and more. Gulls were few (and very distant) at
first but by the time we left at 4:55pm, some 600 settle on the water for good
viewing. We observed six species:
