Sunday, Dec. 20, 2009. The owl was not in the box this morning or yesterday
morning. I did speak to the folks a few blocks away who have a video camera in
their wood duck box and the owl was there yesterday. This owl alternates
roosting sites. We had it most of last week. Maybe they will have
Had two American Tree Sparrows at my feeders this morning.

A first county record White-winged Dove is coming to the feeder of Warren
Wegener, 13304 Oakland Dr, Burnsville, MN. The best time to see this bird is
around 8 am, but it comes to the feeder several times a day. The feeder is in
the back yard, so the only viewing is from inside the house.
This is a second county record, not a first county record. The first record
was 7-8-May-05.

After going through much personal torment from reading postings about bohemian
waxwings sightings here or there, and seeing little evidence, this weekend they
decended upon my neck of the Duluth woods (Riverside). What cheer these birds
bring. What boisterous banter and feasting they exhibit.
The image of the White-winged Dove has been replaced by an image taken by Ken
Oulman. Ken took the first picture of the dove and arranged for others to see
the bird. Ken sent me his image for posting, but I didn't have permission from
the home owner to post the picture. I got carried away

Crow Wing County, one was seen west of Deerwood 500 ft. west of the Hwy. 210
Co. Rd. 32 intersection. This is near the location reported Dec. 10th. In

A total of 60 species was found by more than 50 observers on the
Duluth CBC on Saturday, December 19th.
Three new species for the count were found on Saturday:
Black-headed Grosbeak (east Duluth)
Barrow's Goldeneye (Leif Erickson Park)
Chipping Sparrow (W. Tischer Road)
Other highlights
A total of 46 species was found by nearly 30 observers on the Two
Harbors CBC on Sunday, December 20th.
