A nice flock of 20 Lapland Longspurs, with the males in breeding plumage,
was south of Hastings off 220th St east of Goodwin Rd. around 3 p.m.

I saw what appeared to be a flock of 20 Lapland Longspurs at North Mississippi
Regional Park in North Minneapolis. Everything fits except that these guys
have mostly black napes, not the rufous most often seen in pics and field
guides. Anyone seen this variation before? I did manage to find
Crane Meadows (East of Little Falls 5 miles) had a guided bird outing on
Saturday. On the preserve, and next to it, 95 species were found. Birds of
note: Harris, White Crown, and White Throat Sparrows, Gold Winged Warblers,
Barred Owl, Great Horned Owl, Red headed Woodpecker. Warblers are still
15 warblers on Blue Hill Mahnomen Trails, including FOY Blackburnian. 21
warblers total have moved in through.
Never have been impressed by Catbird's mimic ability, but one did a credible OS
Flycatcher four times this morning.

Fridley, Anoka County, on Sunday morning -- a total of 80 birds
representing 29 species:

Thanks to Matt Dufort I now know that these were indeed Harris Sparrows, not
Laplands. Can't believe I missed that one in my Sibley. Brian

Regrettably for our weekend visitors, this morning we are surrounded by

There was a Minn Birding Weekend (MBW) on May 5-6 in Polk County,
mostly in the Glacial Ridge area SE of Crookston. Our list included a
good variety of species (129 total), although we found nothing of
particular out of the ordinary, and many migrant passerines had not
yet arrived (e.g.,

The Lazuli Bunting or Lazuli/Indigo Bunting hybrid was seen again early this
morning at previous described location. There is some differing opinion's
concerning whether this is a hybrid or not (see picture on recently seen).

Kelly Applegate reminded me of something. There is also a well developed
Purple Martin colony at Crane Meadows. I have passed a lot of time just
watching them interact. Crane Meadows is a nice place to visit if you like
to walk. They have one 3 1/2 mile loop that starts at an observation deck
A couple of changes have been made to the Query Database function.

b.. sort of dayofyear that uses MONTH,DAY as the sort instead of julian date

Thanks to Jim Ryan's posting on Sat, May 5th, I was able to re-locate two

line and on a power pole that was on the north side of the main E-W
