Hi,
I birded along the Brown/Redwood county border earlier today. I found 3 Blue
Grosbeaks in Brown county (this is just east of Sanborn). Two were singing
along 445th Ave. This is a large gravel mining operation and it’s been
generally dependable to find them here over the years. Usually Sunda
Around 6:45 a.m. (Monday 5/13) the adult male Bullock’s Oriole reappeared at my
home feeder. I was sitting at our dining room table and my wife, Risa, was in
the kitchen and we were visiting and she was looking towards our feeders when
she said that an Oriole had just landed on the feeders. I gl
A possible Bullock's Oriole first showed up at my feeder around 6:00 p.m. I got
some mediocre pictures of it with my cell phone at the time. It reappeared at
7:35 p.m. and I was ready for it this time. Mike Oetken came over and was able
to get some good pictures of it with his Canon camera. I l
Hi,
Earlier this morning I walked a large grassland at the Lamberton WMA in south
east Redwood county in search of Smith’s Longspurs and I was fortunate to find
a number of them (I estimated at least 30). The area that I searched is a
grassland that has been mowed by the DNR recently and it’s
There’s a Snowy Egret at Somsen W.M.A. (just west of Menards along Hwy 14 in
New Ulm). It was found by Sarah Taylor yesterday and Mike Oetken reported it
to me today. It’s probably a juvenile but according to Sibley some adults in
nonbreeding plumage are similar.

In addition to the Red Crossbills reported this morning by Bob Ekblad, I found
another in Nobles County (a juvenile) at Lake Bella Recreation Area earlier
this evening. It was found among a row of conifers that are on the east side
of the road that goes north from the entrance to the park on 34
Around 7:00 p.m. I was birding at the Sleepy Eye W.T.P.’s when I noticed a
large flock of birds flying above me (they were a couple of hundred feet up).
They reminded me of a large skein of geese that we see in the spring. When I
got my scope on them I ID’d them as American Golden Plovers. As
Am currently viewing a male Snowy Owl standing on a little patch of snow in a

At 4:15 pm I found a Mute Swan just north of the town of Courtland. It was in a
flooded ag field 1.1 miles north of Hwy 14 on 541st Ave. It was on the west
side of the road, maybe 50 - 100 feet in. I wonder if this could be the same

This afternoon I was surprised to see an American White Pelican resting along
the shore of a marsh in Nicollet county (the marsh is frozen over). The bird
was on the east side of the road. This was on 541st Ave, 1.7 miles north of
Courtland. I have to believe that it's sick or injured. I wouldn
