Watched an adult Cooper's Hawk hunting Starling today (2/12) along London
Road and 16th Ave east in Duluth. There are few winter records for Cooper's
Hawks
in Duluth.

Westskyline Hawk Count has been up and running since 1 March.
May
The month of May has turn the numbers of raptor to above 20,000, which this
counter did not think would happen. At the end of April, the count was just
under 12,000. The weather and count the first few days of May were poor and
Westskyline Hawk Count has been up and running since 1 March.
April
As has been the case since the 4th of April, the weather has not improved
although small flight have been counted. The only exception to this are the
flights counted on the 20th and 21st. Both days saw an impressive early push

I have not sent out an updates since the 3rd as there has been very few
raptors migrating compared to what should be normal for this time of year.
April is
the month with the largest number of raptors and species diversity.

has arrived in the Northland the raptors are picking up along with other
early spring arrivals.
The month of March ended up not so bad in terms of numbers as they were help
along with the two good flight days, the
turning light NE. Mostly cloudy to
overcast. Haze 5-10 miles.

Westskyline Hawk Count has been up and running since 1 March. There has been
small flight so far do to the cold temperatures and lack of open water but
flight have been picking up and small kettle of eagles can be seen moving along
the west skyline along with other species. Most surprising was
Westskyline Hawkwatch, Duluth, MN.
The hawk flight the past few days have been very good with with the bulk of=20
the adult Broad-wings moving through. Flights include: 1968, 5765 (record d=
ay)=20
and 670 on 4/30, 5/1 and 2, with the majority being Broad-wings with 1683,=20
5838 and 477. These

Hawk flights this week were steady with the majority of the migrants being=20
Red-tailed Hawks including: 835, 322, 625, 356 on 4/9,11, 12, and 14. Among=20
these Red tails were 30 dark morphs, two adult Harlan's (1light,1dark) an ad=
ult=20

The flights this past week has been good with moderate raptor movement that=20
include daily flight of 650, 857, 402, 747, and 306 on 4/2, 4/4, 4/5, 4/6 an=

4/7 respectifully. These total reflect the beginning of the Red-tailed Hawk=
=20
movements which

Today's flight (31 March) was counted under mostly blue skies and Northeast=
=20
winds at the Thompson Hill lookout. The flight of 516 raptors was a great wa=
y=20
to end the month. Among the totals included: Turkey

The 26th saw a nice flight of 132 raptors, mainly Bald eagles, but the day=20
was highlighted with a male Kestrel and an adult Red-shouldered Hawk (rare=20
anytime).
There was no count on the 27th with dense fog and freezing

Migration slowed down to a trickle from the 19th to the afternoon of the 22n=
d=20
when a late afternoon push kept us counting until 5:00pm. On that day were=20
had a moderate flight of 162 raptors of three species including 154
EXPERIENCED HAWKWATCHER is needed to conduct a daily, standardized hawk
migration count at Hawk Ridge, Duluth Minnesota from 1 September to 31
October and perhaps into November. Season counts have ranged between forty
thousand to over one hundred thousand raptors comprised of 16 different
