look in mythtv-setup, you can specify different directories for
livetv buffers and recordings. This meant that you can throw in a
cheap IDE drive and use it just for your livetv buffers.
However, the livetv buffers and recordings will still show up together
in the recordings screen.

The menus are XML. You can edit them to remove or add items to your
taste. On my FC3 box, they are stored under /usr/share/mythtv. Using
myth as just a media player isn't that uncommon, I know a few who
don't have tuner cards and use mythvideo religiously.

I am thinking of getting a Hauppauge PVR card to do the
capture and encoding for my MythTV box. I have read the mailing list and
have determined that I want to get either a PVR-150 or PVR-250. I am
going to use a separate card for output to my TV. My question lies with
the difference

cards. We have ~2 Dozen white box oem pc's that came with Leadtek
nvidia cards. Over half of them growl, due to bearing/bushing failure.
The noise drives my co-workers nuts. On average, the fans went south
around 6 months old.
