I can't tell you the modelines right now as the TV's in for repairs(clears throat), and I havent set up ssh on the mythbox, but the TV
manual gave me this information for 1366x768:Horizontal frequency = 49KHz, Vertical Frequency = 60Hz,Running 60 Hz in a PAL-country does not sound very good to me.

I have a 1.6 GHz AMD processor and it does the work very nice. It can transcode almost as fast as record, so a couple hours after a movie has been recorded, it is already transcoded.

it clears up.

I would keep the recordings at MPEG2 at 2200 kbps or check if
mythtranscode can reduce the number of pixels. You might try to go as
low as 400x288 pixels, especially if you are watching on a CRT TV.

I am pretty sure that I will encode at 640x480 but don't know about anyother settings or how they will affect file size. For a normal 1-hour show
(most of our favorites are this long), what kind of file sizes am I lookingat? This will affect the size of the hard disk I buy for the storage.

It failed with an error message like:

Probably you dont have the line:

I figured out that transcoding is handled via a database table called
"transcoding" and that table had been removed from my database (how can that
happen ?).
I recreated the table and now the problem is solved.
