Ok, I bought, from a linux systems distributor, a linux-compatible 56K
modem and a SoundBlaster AWE64 soundcard. I cannot get either to work
with Mandrake up to now.
Modem: My computer manufacturer had disabled COM2; from the BIPS setup, I

I got windowmaker to run by running a command called wmaker.inst then
startx. Then I can switch back to kde by startx kde
In window maker you can switch to Afterstep so I haven't tried to
modify the startx to get into afterstep.
