if this is a Samba problem or a printer problem. If there is
something that I need to do to the win2000 box it's no problem; I have admin
access to it.
Any help will be very greatly appreciated. I'd hate to have to go back to
Windows.
Thanks,

Mark,
Thanks for the tip, although messing with the sliding controls had no effect,
still nothing when playing a CD. I tried both the digital sliders amongst
others. I still believe the EMU10K1 driver (or OSS) require some settings
that arn't enabled by default.
Thanks again

If anybody can either give me some clues as to how I might get a successful

BamBam, Tarballs are collections of files, which may contain
executable files. You might try unpacking the tarball first with:
tar -xzf foo.tar.gz on the console command line.
The "-xzf" options to "tar" does extract, convert from gnuzip,
with disk file as the source.
THEN look for executables.
yes, try "./a.out"
The problem is that your home directory is not in your PATH

Richard,
You must become "root" to change configurations rather than just
a regular user. Root can do powerful (and potentially disastrous) changes
to your system, so best not to be "root" all the time.
The command line:
su
which stands for super user, asks for root's login and password.
Matt,
Ok, your video card is found,
that's good. But you ALSO
need to know some info about your monitor. Most
important is the
rate at which vertical and horizontal scanning is
done. The default
VGA-type video rates are 31.5 KHz horizontal and
60 Hz vertical.
This'd give you standard
server.
Thanks,
Glen

But when shutting down I get [ FAILED ]
It's just happened when I booted LINUX - I have made no changes and as

Thanks everyone.
