It's the scroll wheel, I have an MS Trekker mouse which did the same. I think what fixed it was, tell X that the protocol for it is IMPS/2, in the /etc/X11/XF86Config or /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 file. This is what I have: Section InputDevice Identifier Mouse1 Driver mouse Option
