Hi,
I have Mandrake 8.2 installed in dual boot with WIN ME, and everything
works fine. When I tried to install RedHat, I got a message saying the
partition table was unreadable, that I had to reinitialize, with a
subsequent loss of all data.
It turns out that my partition table looks like this:

I will have to remove the supermount entry in /etc/fstab.
Does anyone know about this?
Hi
When connecting on the LAN of my working institute, I can transfer files
with ftp (much faster than sftp) up to 102.4 Mb, then connection is closed.
This is apparently true for sftp as well. I remember that there was a limit
in old kernels, but since I use Mandrake 8.2 with kernel 2.4.18-6,
Hi,
Unfortunately my upgrade from LM 8.0 to 8.2 did not manage
to keep the apm work. With the new version on my Dell Inspiron
laptop, apm -s and apm -S freezes the computer after reopening
the lid. I tried with disabling the apm in the BIOS with no
effect.

Hi,
I plan to use a webcam (e.g., Logitech Webcam) on my laptop.
I would like to know if such devices work with Linux. What

Hi,
I successefully upgraded from LM8.0 to LM 8.2 by making a clean
install (without the /home partition being reformatted). I noticed
one problem that I would like to share:
when launching an X application, e.g. gnome shell, the Ktaskbar
correctly plots this application, but also plots another
Hi,
I can't record a CD-R on my laptop. Any idea before I go to Windows
to record the CD? I tried with several speeds.

# cdrecord -v -dummy speed=4 dev=0,0 Mandrake82-cd1-inst.i586.iso
Raffaele,
This should be no problem, since I intentionally used the dummy
flag to check whether cdrecord could go through. If it worked out,
I would have removed the --dummy flag.
But do you mean that by removing this flag cdrecord will not fail?
I do not want to loose a CD.

Hi,
I would like to make sure that it is OK to update LM 8.0 (including the
updates for this release) to the latest LM 8.2 without having to upgrade
to 8.1 first.
Thanks,

Hi,
After putting more memory on my laptop (512 MB), the card manager
doesn't want to to load my PCMCIA card anymore.
Apparently, it complains that there is no pcmcia entry in the

I think that it is due to the upgrade, but I wouldn't put my hand

Perhaps you can correct things by rebuilding the RPM database:
rpm --rebuilddb
I have had these strange things happen too, and this seems to help.
Unfortunately, this did not help much.

Hi,
LM8.0 has merged the MandrakeUpdate option

the way it works:
my understanding is that I selects the updated
package in the Installable lists, click such that

Hi,
I installed LM8.0 on my laptop that has hot swapable

on the parallel port.
After installation, after shutdown, I removed the
FDD. At boot, no problem.
However df -k (or Mandrake Control Center, or
everything that access indirectly the FDD)
