I couldn't figure out
how to terminate the X-server, so I switched back to X-server :0 via
CTRL-ALT-F7. I couldn't figure out how to get back to the X-server on
:1.
So how can I do that (if it's even possible)?

Try going into your BIOS (check your computer's manual) and looking for
boot order. Put the CD-ROM drive at the top.
