Hello All,
The Linux From Scratch (LFS) system I'm building is coming along very
nicely. I think I've finally figured out why I was getting all the
XWindows crashes in Mandrake 9.1 and have fixed the problem in LFS. (I
used the ModeLine statement in XF86Config to specifically set
My cables are intact [i think]
The audio cds work fine in Windoze and the old Red Hat I recently disowned.
Mandrake is alot nicer..its just this one thing.
I hate switching my speakers from the back of my Linux box to the headphone jack.
By the way, is this important:
Primary
I can play audio cds in Windoze and Red Hat.
Kmix is set to full.
I'm stumped.

I've done that already and my Window Managers all have sounds.
I can play MP3s with xmms but I can't play audiocds.
kscd reads the d**mn thing fine but no sound comes out.
I am running LM 7.1:
AMD k62-500
Via 82cxx (Apollo MVP4)sound [which works just fine]

I have both SuSE and Mandrake 7.1.
I can't make SuSe work with my video card.
I can't play audio cd's with LM 7.1.
Go figure, huh...
Kscd can play the cd but no sound is coming out.
I have decent sound for events on all window managers, xmms works.
It's pretty weird.
Can anybody help?
I don't

What were you installing with? Your own d/l'd and burned CD's or a store bought set? I had similar problems with installs until I bought the boxed set Power Pack Deluxe and then all was well. The CD's I burned myself were not being read properly by my CDROM
D*mn, I thought it was just *my* ignorance!

They do have decent graphics.
I used SUSE for a while. I didn't like the distro much (Why mount cdrom
on / when there is a /mnt directory?!?! Why god why?) and I found that
their mail list was little to no help at all. in fact I never once
received a single reply to my requests for assistance.
Hope your experience is
sure,
open a terminal console and type sndconfig and go from there. You can try
Harddrake it's good, but it doesn't always work.

Since sound is working it sounds like you are missing the audio cable
between your soundcard and your cd
Have you checked that your cd's audio cable is connected to the cd-in pins
on your sound card?

I have
what sound card do you have ? Have you checked the CD output level using a
mixer app like kmix ? Often it defaults to zero - system sounds are fine
but you won't hear any CD, although it is playing.

You may be having the same problem I had. Here's how to find out:
1. Have you been able to play audio CDs using another OS (i.e., Windows)?
2. Can you play streaming audio (i.e., Shoutcast) or other sound material
from the web?
3. Do you know whether you have a CD audio cable?
If you can
