I tried again to connect to the school LAN and nothing works.
What I did is opening the configuration panel and used the internet network
wizard with the notebook connected to the LAN.
All the network is under Windows 98 with no server.
I have also installed LINneighberhod.
Wrankly I do
There are several authentication methods to prevent unauthorized machines to
connect to a network. For example 802.2x which activates the switchport you
are connected to only after successful authentication. Perhaps you have these

Several things could be going on
What are the IP addresses, first?
On the windows machines right-click network neighborhood and check their
properties for protocols. Is WINS on or off? NetBIOS? Is there a gateway
defined? Is DNS enabled or disabled? What are the IP addresses
The IP addresses are 192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.13 for the win machines,
and 192.168.0.6 for the Linux. WINS is off. I think NetBIOS is on (i'm
